Mapping “Two-Spirit”

The modern term Two-Spirit has been adopted by Native Americans as an umbrella term referring “to the historical and current indigenous people whose individual spirits are a blend of female and male spirits”.

Aaron Ridings, long-time Portlander who is now Associate Director of the LGBT Research and Communications Project at the Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C., recently posted a fascinating interactive map of the names that the many Native American tribes give their Two-Spirit members and the organizations supporting them.
